Polylactic acid (PLA)

Polylactic acid (PLA) is a biodegradable, thermoplastic, synthetic aliphatic polyester polymer, one of the most promising biopolymers used nowadays and have large number of applications in medical and pharmaceutical industries as it bears good mechanical property, transparency and eco-friendly nature. It is also used in human body for a number of growing technologies such as orthopaedics, drug delivery which includes release of drug through nano-medicine and nano-particle, sutures, stents, bio-sensors and scaffolds for repair of different types of soft and hard tissues in many surgeries as a biodegradable, non-inflammatory and biocompatible material. Due to its non-toxicity and high compatibility with human tissues and the fact that it is easily degraded, PLA has found many applications, including in the food, packaging and textiles composites
